“무한한 자유를 꿈꾸는 시는 아름답지만 그것이 무용하고 불가능하기 때문에 아름다운 것이다. 다른 이들이 그렇듯이 나 또한 그 무용함에 마음이 간다.” 황인찬 시인의 신작 시집 『여기까지가 미래입니다』 한국어와 영어로 함께 만나는 K-포엣 스물네 번째 시집으로 황인찬 시인의 『여기까지가 미래입니다』가 출간되었다. 『구관조 씻기기』 『희지의 세계』 『사랑을 위한 되풀이』 등을 펴내며 독자들에게 많은 사랑을 받고 있는 시인의 시 20편을 모았다. 일상의 장면들이 담담한 고백처럼 흘러나오더니 한 편의 시가 된다. 때로는 농담 같고, 때로는 아무런 의미도 없는 것만 같은 사소한 대화들은 서늘하고도 진솔하게 다가와 곱씹을수록 거기에 어떤 진실이 있을 것만 같다. 시 속에서 거듭되는 대화들은 완전한 이해에 도달하게 하지는 못하더라도 이해로 가닿으려는 시도를 멈추지 않게 한다. “아무도 그것이 무엇인지 모르면서, 그런데도 무엇인가를 이해하면서” _「교통」 중에서 “역시 이들이 당도한 받아들일 수밖에 없는 어떤 미래인 것이다. 그 미래는 오지 않은 시간이 아니라 구체적 시간과 공간이며 먼 곳에 있는 것이 아니라 지금 여기 내 눈앞에 있는 확실한 감각이다.”(강성은 시인) <바이링궐 에디션 한국 대표 소설>과 시리즈를 잇는 해외진출 세계문학 시리즈 아시아 출판사는 2012년에 기획부터 출간까지 7년이 넘는 시간을 들인 근현대 대표 작가 총망라한 최초의 한영대역선집 <바이링궐 에디션 한국 대표 소설>과 2014년에 한국을 대표하는 젊은 작가들의 생생한 목소리를 담은 시리즈를 출간하며 한국 문학계에 새로운 바람을 불어넣었다. 2019년에도 새로운 도전을 이어간다. 유일무이 한영대역 시선집 시리즈인 이 그것이다. 안도현, 백석, 허수경을 시작으로 한국을 대표하는 시인의 시편을 영문으로도 번역하여 출간하고 있다. 영문 시집은 해외 온라인 서점 등에서도 판매되며 한국시에 관심을 갖는 해외 독자들의 마음도 사로잡을 예정이다. 책 속에서 What is the act of writing? What is poetry? And what is the act of writing poetry? When I think of things like this, I feel boundlessly frustrated. Someone said poetry is free but what I find there is only confinement and the premonition of confinement. A bird is not free. A bird is only as free as it has been permitted. Just as a cage without the bird is freedom to Gim Choon-soo, poetry’s confinements appear to me as freedom. What we see is not the freedom of poetry but the dream of freedom a poem dreams, and even that we cannot touch or see properly. Poetry that dreams of infinite freedom is beautiful but it is beautiful because it is useless and impossible. Like others, I am drawn to its uselessness. From Poet’s Note 추천사 At once, time has stopped and sounds stilled in this space where even the reader feels like they should hold their breath. At this moment, a strange poetic tautness appears, and silence slowly turns into an omen. But this transformation occurs so slowly that upon looking around, the reader finds themselves in the eye of a storm.
